In an attempt to avoid doing real work, I have a cunning plan!

Swing is cool. But so is salsa. and breakdancing. and belly dancing. and ballroom. There's a ton of amazing dancers in this city doing awesome stuff.

Buuuuuuuuut...we all keep eachother at a distance and never mix with the other styles.

So, being attracted to being distrupting like tallis to a shiny thing, I'm considering organising a social dance night of some vague description, but attempting to get as many dancers from as many disciplines and styles together in the one room to see what mayhem occurs :-)

My vague vision is...

1- partly just to have fun with other equally crazy dancers and check out eachothers funky stuff. Normal night club dance floors involve lots of drunk people standing around not really dancing. For a change I'd like to see a club night with some cool moves and proper dancing being shown off :-)

2- partly so we can see what we can learn off eachother, what interesting subtlies various dances have and to learn more about improving our own styles by seeing them through the lense of how other dances work.

3- and as an entirely long shot I haven't thought through, but to get more connections between the various dancing groups so potentially interesting collaborations and cooperation can happen

off the top of my head I know of plymouth based groups doing swing, jive, salsa, capoeira, belly dancing, break dancing, contact improv, does anyone have contacts in other groups we could poke with a stick?

The exact details of said plan are pretty much nonexistant at this point ;-) I'm mostly just seeing whether other people it's a good idea or blatently a train wreck

So, what do people think?

and does anyone have any suggestions, obvious flaws etc?
